The journey of human progress, driven by scientific and technological advancements, aligns with societal development. In this narrative, the role of academics extends beyond traditional educational boundaries, reaching into the domain of community development. The WUACD Summit 2023 stands as a beacon, urging academics to contribute not only to knowledge but also to the enhancement of communities. Focused on collaboration in community development initiatives through strategic partnerships, welcoming new members, and planning for future WUACD programs, the summit aimed to support SDG 15 “Life on Land” and SDG 17 “Partnership for the Goals.” Its success was measured by supporting SDGs, fostering partnerships, elevating the university’s standing, and initiating cooperative community development programs with a focus on SDG 17.

The WUACD Summit 2023 yielded significant outcomes, including adding six new university partners to WUACD membership, collaborating with the World Association for Sustainable Development (WASD) and UNIRANKS, and initiating community development programs on mindful eating, nutrition, and sea turtle conservation.

Commencing on November 20th, the summit began with the arrival of distinguished delegates and a welcoming dinner, setting the stage for collaborative discussions in the subsequent days. On November 21st, the summit unfolded with Welcoming and Opening Remarks, followed by pivotal elements such as The WUACD Program Report 2023 and the announcement of the Elected Project Coordinator for 2024. A Discussion Session explored the Program Plan for WUACD in 2024, including plans for the WUACD Summer Program, International Community Development, International Conference, and Executive Board Meeting in 2024.
On November 22nd, participants experienced a rich agenda divided into two groups. Group 1 engaged in thought-provoking guest lectures, while Group 2 embarked on a site visit to Universitas Airlangga’s Marine Station. Both groups converged into socialization sessions facilitated by local communities, covering topics like mindful eating, climate change vulnerability, and Sea Turtle Conservation. The day concluded with environmentally conscious initiatives, including planting mangrove trees and spruce, followed by a communal dinner, embodying the essence of the summit in promoting intellectual exchange, practical insights, and environmental stewardship.

The summit hosted distinguished representatives from 20 international institutions and two associations. In essence, the WUACD Summit serves as an annual testament to collaboration, knowledge exchange, and community engagement, symbolizing Universitas Airlangga’s commitment to addressing global challenges through international partnerships in community service. It transcends being just an event; it becomes a symbol of collective efforts aimed at shaping a better and interconnected world.
