WUACD Thematic Summer Programs: The Major Use of Herbal Medicine from Several Countries during the Pandemic Era

The Thematic Summer Programs on International Herbal Medicine Workshop had been started by Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). The programs act as a part of The International Student Study Service. Following pandemic as the most recent issue these days, there is still no specific chemical treatment for COVID-19.People in the community and scholars are attempting to determine the best method for curing or preventing the condition, which includes the use of herbal medicine. Because the immune status of patients is so important in COVID-19 infection, herbal complementary medicine with an immunomodulatory impact could be useful as a preventive and possibly therapeutic treatment for COVID-19 infection patients. Realizing that issue, WUACD UNAIRin cooperation with the Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Postgraduate School, and Faculty of Pharmacy as the Project Coordinator conducted an inspiring webinar series on International Herbal Medicine.

The International Herbal Medicine workshop is divided into three parts, one webinar and two training for trainers of herbal industry. The webinar was held on July 9, 2021, via zoom meeting. The first webinar aimed to raise the awareness of traditional herbal medicine as a complementary in preventing COVID-19 and helping the healing process. As the first step of the workshop series, the webinar introduced many herbs and complementary medicine in Indonesia, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and Japan. The insightful speakers who engaged with this first webinars were Prof. apt. Mangestuti Agil, MS. from Indonesia Dr. Fatimatuzzarha Bt. Abdul Aziz from Malaysia, Assist. Prof. Dr. Sukanya Dej-adisai from Thailand, Dr. Sharifa Sultana from Bangladesh, Dr. Ram Kumar Sahu from India, and Prof. Kenji Watanabe from Japan. All of them mainly shared about the herbal medicine practices in the pandemic era. After the first webinars, it will be followed by Training for Trainers I on July 16th, 2021, and Training for Trainers II on August 6th, 2021.
