Since the earthquake happened in Türkiye, it already affected many people in 10 cities where more than 10.000 were injured, 40.000 died, and 200.000 evacuated. The victims were part of an institution named Kirklareli University, a part of WUACD. Most of the victims are hoping to reconstruct affected areas due to losing homes and buildings as their safe places before the earthquake happens.

Due to these urgent problems, people are needing immediate support such as food and hygiene products. Conducting to those needs, people also hope to get psychological support at the same time they need the primary product to consume. The basic reason why psychological support is an important thing was caused by post-traumatic stress that had been affecting daily people’s lives in the short term and long term.

Contributing to the responsibility as the foundation of academia in providing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), WUACD immediately gave a big response to the needs after the Türkiye earthquake happened on February 6. During the meeting with Kirklareli University, the stakeholders of WUACD discussed the access, needs, and plan for contributing help.

Starting from the fundraising program under the WUACD name, in order to get access for the Türkiye government, the fundraising will be transferred to The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (Turkish: Afet ve Acil Durum Yönetimi Başkanlığı, also abbreviated as AFAD). Besides that, WUACD will provide mental support by its members in collaboration with psychological expertise from Universitas Airlangga and also other universities. According to education, after the disaster, many educational facilities are being disrupted, there will be a long-term plan for supporting the rebuilding of education from finance and facilities. The WUACD action in supporting the post-disaster recovery has been also published by a Turkish Media.
