UNAIR x UTM x TUPLS: “Kembara Rahman ke Surabaya” Student Mobility Program in Driving Growth Towards Sustainable Future

From the 22nd to the 26th of September 2024, Kembara Rahman ke Surabaya, one of the WUACD student mobility program was held in Jombang, East Java, Indonesia. It is an initiative collaboration between Universitas Airlangga through the Faculty of Economics and Business and the Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Airlangga with the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and the Tokyo University Pharmacy and Life Sciences. The program is joined by 39 students from three mentioned universities and several lecturers and staff from different faculties and universities. With talented individuals from various disciplines and nationalities, the international community development program is dedicated to transferring new knowledge and skills to the local community through the combined efforts of multiple backgrounds. It also provides opportunities for the local community to enhance and implement the knowledge received to develop a self-sustainable future for the community.

The program is committed to empowering students and local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to face the ever-changing world using the necessary tools and knowledge. Throughout the five-day program, multiple activities and sessions were held with the initiative of participants, sharing their expertise to build and strengthen the local community’s comprehension regarding education, business, and the environment. Each activity of the program also corresponds with various sustainable development goals, such as Sustainable Development Goal 4, “Quality Education,” Sustainable Development Goal 8, “Decent Work and Economic Growth,” Sustainable Development Goal 15, “Life on Land,” and Sustainable Development Goal 17 “Partnership for the Goals.” The stress on collaboration between academic institutions, organizations, and the community will make the audience feel part of a united effort. This united effort brings positive influence toward progress for sustainable development, such as increasing the quality of education for future generations, promoting sustainable use of the terrestrial ecosystem, and developing growth and decent work for a self-sustaining economy. The program benefits the community and serves as a start for further collaborative efforts in achieving sustainable development.


With the diversity of students and lecturers worldwide, the program aims to provide a comprehensive learning experience with educational activities, expertise-sharing sessions, and cultural exchange. The program enables students to understand the situation better and the community’s challenges. Through the activities provided, students will receive practical experiences and relevant knowledge essential for the effective development and empowerment of communities. This emphasis on practical experiences and applicable knowledge will make the audience feel prepared and capable. It brings growth in academic understanding to boost the implementation of interdisciplinary knowledgeability in real-world situations, conclusively creating an everlasting impact on the future.
