In the current state of the world, human capital is more important than ever. The quality and the wellbeing of people is necessary as it is a significant part in the success and prosperity of different areas of life which affects the outcome that affects everyone. Efforts must be made to consistently amplify and strengthen each member of the community, which ultimately enhances the human capital and their contribution to society and the industries they are in.

Community development is one of the ways to help in maximizing human capital and their contribution to the community. Multiple countries and regions need help to improve their community and way of life. This is recognized in  the event of  Community Development in Dili, which is a collaboration that is done by the Indonesian Embassy and Universidade National Timor Lorosa’e. As a country that requires extensive development, the purpose of this event is to optimize the quality and condition of the community to enhance their wellbeing as well as the potential it has. The realization of various SDGs are also an objective for this activity. The event was held from 13 October to 20 October 2022 in Dili, Timor Leste. Various seminars and workshops that cover different activities and the sustainability of daily life are addressed with 16 delegates from Universitas Airlangga. Among the topics being discussed is the subject of disaster mitigation and the safety of the community.

Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of every member of the community from the dangers and threat of local disaster is imperative and must be done efficiently. Proper management of this matter should be enacted in all areas of life. A strategy to tackle this issue is by creating and implementing a system targeted towards disaster mitigation. It requires substantial information that is provided by the event through the form of seminars that are aimed towards local disaster resilience organizations or communities in the country. On 13 October, a seminar on disaster mitigation was held with the theme “Building a Community-Based Disaster Mitigation System Through Disaster Risk Analysis in Timor Leste”. Another seminar on disaster mitigation was also held on 14 Oct. The seminars are able to give valuable insight towards the people in organizations and communities who are passionate as well as responsible for protecting individuals around them. The materials and analysis of the potential risk in Timor Leste that they learn from the seminar are able to aid them in  the construction of their own disaster mitigation system that they could apply in the country.
