SUMMARY:Waste to Wealth 2026
DESCRIPTION:The impact of climate change\, one of the sources of which is greenhouse gases\, is already very much felt\, where one of the main sources comes from waste. Therefore\, efforts are needed to reduce waste generation through proper management\, including recycling waste as part of climate action . The importance of good waste management is key to minimizing the emergence of greenhouse gases\, as well as being a solution to the limited landfill space. On the other hand\, the increase in waste volume that is not balanced with optimal management also contributes to high greenhouse gas emissions from the waste sector\, especially methane (CH₄)\, carbon dioxide (CO₂)\, and nitrous oxide (N₂O)\, which play a major role in accelerating global warming. In addition\, the contribution from the industrial sector\, also through industrial greenhouse gas emissions\, further exacerbates the condition. This impact triggers increasingly uncontrolled climate change\, which then leads to environmental damage\, pollution\, and an increased risk of various diseases due to changes in environmental conditions. Therefore\, the Waste to Wealth concept is a strategic solution to minimize the impact of climate change.\n \n\n In response to these problems\, climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts are needed starting from the source\, one of which is through wise waste management. This approach is realized through the concept of “Waste to Wealth”\, namely efforts to convert waste into valuable resources\, both economically and socially\, while reducing negative impacts on the environment. In order to prepare the adaptation and mitigation action indicators for ProKlim (Community Program for Climate) in 2026 in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Environment and Forestry No. 1679 of 2024 and to strengthen the capacity of environmental cadres\, the East Java Provincial Environmental Agency in collaboration with WUACD and LPMB Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held a socialization for prospective ProKlim locations regarding the concept of integrated waste management\, which focuses on processing technology from upstream to downstream to convert waste into products with economic value\, energy\, or raw materials\, while increasing the economic value of waste and reducing the impact of environmental pollution.\n \n\n In order to support these efforts\, the International Conference on Community Development (Comdev) was held with the theme “Waste to Wealth 2026”. This activity brought together various stakeholders\, as a concrete step in reducing source-based greenhouse gas emissions. This conference presented keynote speakers\, namely Prof. Muhammad Miftahussurur\, dr.\, M.Kes.\, Sp.PD-KGEH.\, Ph.D.\, FINASIM as Chairperson of WUACD\, as well as main speakers consisting of Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih\, M.Si as Secretary of WUACD Airlangga University\, H. Subandi\, SH\, M.Kn. (Regent of Sidoarjo)\, and Prof. Hery Purnobasuki\, M.Si.\, Ph.D as Chairperson of LPMB Airlangga University. The speakers included: Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih\, M.Si. (Airlangga University\, Indonesia); Prof. Dr. Jamia Azdina Binti Jamal (National University of Malaysia\, Malaysia); Dr. Sohom Roy (Picarro Inc.\, United States); Moch. Hadi Khustanto\, ST (PT. Dwitura Mitra Sejahtera\, Indonesia); Prof. Dr. Firdaus Mohamad Hamzah (National University of Malaysia\, Malaysia); Christopher Dick-Sagoe\, Ph.D. (University of Botswana\, Botswana); Rahmat Hidayat\, SE (BUMDES Gemilang Ketajen\, Indonesia); Prof. Datu Buyung Agusdinata (Arizona State University\, United States); Ir. Dr. Azimah Ismail (Sultan Zainal Abidin University\, Malaysia); Rania Naura Anindhita\, B.Sc. (The Young Generation\, Indonesia); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azlan Abas ( National University of Malaysia\, Malaysia); Soejono MJ\, MBA (Community of Mutiara Berkah Berseri\, Indonesia); and ChM. Dr. Munirah binti Abdul Zali (Waste Technology and Environment Division\, Malaysian Nuclear Agency). Moderators in each breakout room\, namely: Breakout Room 1 guided by Assoc. Prof. Dr. R. Azizah\, SH\, M.Kes.; Breakout Room 2 by Dr. Mahmud Aditya Rifqi\, S.Gz.\, M.Si.; Breakout Room 3 by Dr. Retno Andriyani\, ST\, M.Kes.; and Breakout Room 4 by Dr. Sudarmaji\, S.KM.\, M.Kes. COMDEV Waste to Wealth is chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. R. Azizah\, SH\, M.Kes.\, together with the HIMA S2KL FKM UNAIR team.\n \n\n The efforts to address the problem of urban waste at this conference emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration through a hexahelix approach\, involving universities\, government\, non-governmental organizations\, industry\, communities\, and the media. This synergy is expected to strengthen sustainable promotional and preventive efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions\, thereby achieving the shared goal of maintaining a healthy earth\, in line with the motto: “Healthy Earth\, and the Earth will make us healthy.” https://ehclimate.org/

Collaboration with foreign colleges and institutions throughout the world in the form of student summer programs is one approach that might be employed. It provides a platform for students to learn from the community and gain hands-on experience. It will allow for the interchange of cultural practices\, which can deepen and widen students' understanding by obtaining another point of view on how things function in our society.   \n\nStudents can connect with the community through the program\, which can help them adjust to a new method of learning that is distinct from their own by implementing the conducted research in the targeted community. Developing university branding through collaborative international initiatives that promote the SDGs\, as well as improving the collaboration of WUACD members and creating doors for future international collaboration\, are all useful in carrying out this program. \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Objectives\n \nImplementing the conducted research to the targeted community.\nDeveloping university branding through collaborative international programs which support SDGs.\nStrengthening the collaboration of WUACD members and opening opportunities for prospective international collaboration.\nContributing to foster stronger relationships between the university and the community.

This approach focuses on building partnerships and working closely with community organizations and members to address shared challenges and achieve common goals. This can include initiatives related to education\, research\, service\, and engagement. \nCollaboration can help to bridge the gap between the resources and expertise of the university and the needs of the surrounding community\, leading to more effective and sustainable solutions. Furthermore\, Collaborative Community Development within Higher Education Institutions can also foster a sense of shared responsibility and mutual benefit\, supporting the development of strong\, resilient communities. \nMoreover\, as social and economic disparities have been widely acknowledged as major issues in many communities and there is an increasing expectation for Higher Education Institutions to support and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals\, which has further accentuated the importance of collaborative community development. \nAs the commitment of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR)\, through World University Association for Community Development (WUACD)\, to enhance international collaboration for community development programs\, UNAIR provides a grant and matching-fund scheme for the WUACD’s members. The funding scheme is to support initiatives and projects that aim to improve the overall well-being and quality of life for members of a specific community. There are two schemes of Airlangga Community Development Grant: \n\nMatching-fund program among WUACD members.\nAirlangga Grant.\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Objectives\n \n \n The Airlangga Grant and Matching Fund program aims to create a strong collaborative ecosystem among universities and other stakeholders in solving various world problems and challenges through community development programs.\n \n Working on the topic of Health & Environment\, Innovative Education & Life-Long Learning\, Social Development & Multiculturalism\, and Sustainable Economy for the target community.\n \n The Airlangga Grant and Matching Fund program also aims to increase student and staff mobility with community service activates\, and increase the number of Academic Peer List.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Output Target\n \n \n One published scientific article in community services to a scopus-indexed journal\n \n One published article in digital or printed mass media.\n \n An activity video that has been uploaded to WUACD website.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Proposal Topics and Sub-Topics\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Health & Environment\n \nClimate Change \nRenewable Energy \nClean Water\, Sanitation\, and Hygiene\nStunting \nEmerging Infectious Diseases\nHealth System\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Innovative Education & Life-Long Learning\n \nCollaborative Learning \nDigital Learning\nSuitable Education for All\nEducation Aid and Teachers Training\nInclusive Education\nInnovative Learning Environment\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Social Development & Multiculturalism\n \nPoverty Reduction\nIncreasing Social Welfare \nGender Disparities and Inequality\nHunger\nYouth Empowerment\nDiversity and Inclusion\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Sustainable Economy\n \nSMEs Development\nLocal-Wisdom Based Business Model \nBlue Economy\nGreen Economy\nSustainable Tourism Development\nWork Opportunities\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The proposal-selection process is explained as follows:\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n l\n \n \n \n \n \n Fill out the online registration form\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Upload the proposal to the provided link\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Z\n \n \n \n \n \n Proces selection\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Proposal assesment by reviewer team\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Announcement for selected proposal\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Contract and MoA drafting and signing\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Program Schedule\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Call for Proposals1 – 14 February 2023 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Announcement17 April 2023 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Program ReportSeptember 2023 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Proposal Submission15 February – 31 March 2023 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) Drafting and Signing26 July 2023 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Final ReportNovember 2023 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Selection Process3 – 7 April 2023 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Program ImplementationJune – October 2023 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Article Journal Submited30 December 2023 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Article Journal Accepted1 June 2024

Empowerment programs are needed to improve the economy evenly and overcome social  problems. Gender Equality\, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) are the issues that needs attention to provide access to a decent life for women and marginalized groups. One of the focuses of GEDSI’s activities is to empower women\, marginalized groups and disabilities by increasing their skills and capacity in various sectors\, especially the economic sector. Especially during the economic recovery period after the Covid-19 pandemic which has impacted the world economy\, it is necessary to conduct community development programs to increase economic activities and empower the community. The GEDSI Summer Program which will be held by FISIP UNAIR in collaboration with the World University Association for Community Development (WUACD) is one of the activities to facilitate student activities in women’s empowerment and business development activities. The targets of this activity are Airlangga University students\, international student\, the women groups in Gresik and Bojonegoro\, East Java\, and collaboration partners from Tirta Ayu Spa and Gresik Women’s School. Scholars can actively assist the community in the service area in using and developing the potential of existing natural resources and resources through this community service.  \nAs part of its ongoing efforts\, WUACD (World University Association for Community Development) Universitas Airlangga will host an international conference. The conference will offer a crucial platform for the growth of scholars and research on community developmental issues with a global perspective and a variety of skills and experiences. The program will be hosted by Universitas Airlangga and co-hosted by Universiti Putra Malaysia. It invites participants from both domestic and global networks to discuss in depth and effectively how academics around the world support each other in community service\, particularly in environmental health. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Program Detail\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Sub TopicsTimelineCountryEvent ActivitiesAwards Announcement\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nGreen Economy\nBlue Economy\nDigital Economy\nHealth and Well-Being\nFood Security\nTourism & Conservation\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \nFirst Announcement: \n\n8 August 2022 \n\nSecond Announcement: \n\n9 September 2022 \n\n\nThird Announcement: \n\n3 October 2022 \n\nRegistration and Abstract Submission: \n\n30 October 2022 \n\nAnnouncement of Abstract Acceptance: \n\n31 October 2022 \n\nVideo Presentation Submission: \n\n31 October 2022 \n\nPoster Submission: \n\n31 October 2022 \n\nFull Paper Submission: \n\n3 November 2022 \n \n \n \n \n \n \nINDONESIA\nMALAYSIA\nINDIA\nUNITED KINGDOM\nSOUTH KOREA\nBANGLADESH\nTAIWAN\nAUSTRALIA\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \nScientific Meeting\nOral Presentations\nPoster Presentations\nJournal Publication\n\n \n \n \n \n \n The awards are given to the oral presenters judged to be the best in the oral presentations and scientific papers at the International Conference on Community Development 2022. SUMMARY:Thematic Summer Program at WUACD Universitas Airlangga 2021

SUMMARY:WUACD Summit 2019
DESCRIPTION:About\n \n \n \n \n \n Considering the demands for global academic mobility through a distinctive activity for community rather than research and involving more international partners in the world\, there is an urgency to establish an association for community development. Therefore\, in 2018\, Universitas Airlangga initiated World University Association for Community Development (WUACD) establishment supported by 15 higher educations around the world as founders. \nIn November 2019\, WUACD will hold a summit. It is an annual forum organized by Universitas Airlangga and supported by the founders. This summit acts as a platform enabling each participant and partners to share a valuable information\, experience\, and activity for local community in form of community engagement. Hopefully\, this summit will subsequently contribute to a better life of local community. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Vision\, Mission\, and Aims of WUACD\n \n \n \n \n \n As a strategic orientation for the association\, WUACD is designed to have a vision: “to be most prominent community development association in the world”. \nWUACD also has two missions: \n\nIncreasing the number of collaborations in the forms of community service which is in line with academics’ focusing on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s)\, and\nArticulating community services in international programs for both students and staff mobility.\n\nThe aims of WUACD are to promote its members to have more international collaboration in the forms of community service and to maximize local development by empowering communities. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Focus of Summit\n \n \n \n \n \n During the summit\, participants have to remember that the activities will be conducted focus on social development including Health\, Education\, Disaster Mitigation\, Behavior for Cross-Cultural Era\, Gender\, and Economy. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Objectives\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n A great meeting and sharing knowledge\, skill\, knowledge\, and experience on community engagement activities. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n An active involvement in a transforming community project into any effective practices for the local community. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n An opportunity to develop networking and collaboration among participants in order to set up new community development agenda. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Invited Participants\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Universitas Airlangga\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Al Azhar University\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The University of Western Australia\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n University of Malaya\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Universiti Teknologi Malaysia\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Asia University\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Miami Dade College\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Kasetsart University\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n UCSI University\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Prince of Songkla University\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Royal University of Law and Economics\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Daffodil International University\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Thammasat University\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Universiti Putra Malaysia\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Universiti Kuala Lumpur\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Notre Dame Australia University\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Kirklareli University\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Venue\n Participants’ place to stay: TBD \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Main Venue\n Rectorat Building of Universitas Airlangga\, Campus C Mulyorejo\, \nJl.
