In support of providing academic guidance, cultivating multicultural experiences with diverse people, and fostering values such as collaboration and responsibility, students from Universitas Airlangga involved in BBK International joined educational programs conducted by the University of Notre Dame Australia. Under the World University Association for Community Development (WUACD), BBK International serves as a student mobility initiative that promotes global collaboration and community development for students of WUACD’s partner institutions. The initiatives consisted of collaborative sessions with Clontarf Academy and Campus Connect activity. Held in July and August 2025, the programs brought together local and international students as well as the indigenous community in Fremantle, Western Australia, to build positive relationships and expand new opportunities for a better future.
On 28th July 2025, BBK International program participants, accompanied by one leader and coordinator from Student Life at the University of Notre Dame, participated in Clontarf Academy’s program. Held in Fremantle College, the participants attended a lunchtime session with Clontarf Academy Indigenous pupils of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander origin, aligning with the focus to develop the students’ potential. During the visit, participants actively engaged in intercultural exchange and learnt about the academy’s educational and personal growth programs. Discussion regarding the academy’s emphasis on supporting self-esteem, leadership, employment preparation through mentorship, life skills, and sports programs was also included. Moreover, participants also interacted with staff to deepen their understanding regarding the academy’s role in increasing school engagement and excellent results for Aboriginal adolescents.
With the focus on strengthening life skills, discipline, and engagement in school, the program has successfully implemented SDG 4: Quality Education by exposing participants to Clontarf Academy’s mentoring system, academic guidance, and life-skills activities that help indigenous pupils stay engaged in school and prepare for future pathways. The program also contributes to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities through targeted support for indigenous adolescents that improves school engagement and access to opportunities. Taken together, the implementation has improved cross-cultural understanding and awareness of Indigenous education and mentoring programmes. Participants learned about models for addressing 25 educational disengagement in Indigenous adolescents while also promoting life skills and community involvement.
Proceeding the effort to foster a multicultural network and to develop a more inclusive community, BBK International participants also took part in the Campus Connect program held on 30th July and 5th August 2025 at Prindiville Hall, University of Notre Dame. The program aims to create a warm and welcoming interaction space to bring a sense of belonging to students. The activity involved two sessions of interactive workshops attended by BBK International program participants, University of Notre Dame students, and academic and student support staff. The first session involves active interaction regarding campus events and student life, while the second includes creative activities such as a tag-cutting ceremony for the DFG program and crocheting sessions that promote collaboration and cultural exchange.
In line with SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, each of these goals has been applied, indicating the success of the program’s implementation, which results in more encouraged connections between international and local students, enhancement of cultural competency, and raised awareness of University of Notre Dame’s academic and social facilities. Furthermore, it also helped to create supportive peer networks and encourage inclusive campus activity.
Overall, each program has been successfully implemented with the help and active involvement of participants from BBK International program, University of Notre Dame Australia, and other stakeholders. The positive output has not only had positive impacts on BBK International program participants, but also on every party that contributes.
