This year, during the BBK International to Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Malaysia, students engaged in activities focused on cultural preservation and education. These initiatives aimed to deepen their appreciation for human cultural diversity, fostering empathy and global awareness—critical qualities in our interconnected world. The activities also aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 8, 9, and 11.

On the second day of their trip, the students visited Kelab Memanah, where they learned about traditional archery, its cultural value, and how it can be preserved as a unique artistic and tourist attraction. They practiced archery using traditional techniques and equipment, gaining insights into the sport’s historical significance. On the seventh day, the group explored Pasar Payang, a traditional market in Terengganu, where they interacted with local vendors, observed price differences, and learned about the variety of products sold. This experience enhanced their understanding of such markets’ economic role in supporting local livelihoods.

Their visit to the Muzium Negeri Terengganu allowed them to explore the region’s rich cultural and historical artifacts. However, they identified areas where the museum could improve organization and data management and suggested modernizing its operations for a better visitor experience.

The final leg of their journey included stops at the Memorial Batu Bersurat and Rumah Botol, where they learned about their historical significance. Rumah Botol, established in 2002 as a response to beach pollution caused by discarded bottles, has since evolved into a tourist attraction with aspirations to expand into projects like creating a bottle village.

Through these visits and activities, the students contributed to cultural preservation and gained a richer understanding of Malaysia’s heritage and its role in shaping local communities. Their efforts highlight the importance of preserving history and culture for future generations while supporting sustainable development.
