On April 24th, 2024, the program commenced with an insightful lecture delivered by PSU Community Engagement in Health Science, setting the stage for a day filled with immersive learning experiences. Divided into three groups, participants eagerly delved into the diverse topics of Herbal Products, Organic Farming, and Health Science, each group poised to explore different facets of community development in the Mae Tom suburban district of Hat Yai.

The first and second groups embarked on a captivating journey to the venerable Ku Tao Temple, a 270-year-old revered Buddhist site steeped in history and tradition. Here, amidst the serene surroundings, discussions ensued on the merits of Organic Foods and the innovative Biotechnological Tools employed in producing medicinal plants. Participants gained valuable insights into community-based initiatives promoting sustainable agriculture and holistic wellness by engaging with local stakeholders and university experts.

Meanwhile, the third group embarked on a unique excursion to the Hat Yai railway community, a vibrant hub of activity nestled amidst the bustling train tracks, aligning with SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). Here, despite the hustle and bustle of daily life, participants delved into the concept of growth mindset development, exploring strategies to foster resilience and empowerment within marginalized communities. Local mentors and university experts guided them in interactive workshops and discussions with the local community.

As the day drew to a close, all participants went for a short trip to the Greenway Market, a bustling marketplace brimming with traditional Thai foods and goods. Bounded by the vibrant atmosphere, they savored the flavors of authentic Thai cuisine, exchanged stories and insights gleaned from their respective excursions, and reflected on the day’s enriching experiences.
With minds and hearts nourished by the day’s adventures, participants departed with a renewed sense of purpose and inspiration, ready to apply their newfound knowledge and insights to effect positive change in their communities.
