The partnership between WUACD Universitas Airlangga and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia has been a cornerstone of sustainable programming since its inception in 2023, continuing its impactful journey into 2024. This collaborative initiative has consistently championed the ideals of social and educational advancement, particularly focusing on the welfare of migrant workers and their families. In the spring of 2024, from April 29th to May 4th, this collaborative effort reached new heights as it brought together a diverse cohort of lecturers and students to participate in a dynamic program situated in the heart of Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this program embodies the ethos of holistic development. Through its multifaceted approach, it addresses various SDGs including SDG 3 “Good Health and Well-being,” SDG 4 “Quality Education,” SDG 5 “Gender Equality,” SDG 8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth,” and SDG 10 “Reduced Inequalities.” Over the span of six days, this program not only fulfilled its mission but also aligned seamlessly with the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) number 5 set forth by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.
The impact of community development, a central tenet of this collaborative endeavor, cannot be overstated. By directly engaging with communities, this program has catalyzed positive change, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those it serves. Beyond its immediate objectives, this collaborative initiative seeks to forge enduring partnerships with institutions such as Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Through mutual exchange, it endeavors to enrich the experiences, knowledge, and reputations of both participating universities. Moreover, situated in Johor Bahru, participants were afforded the invaluable opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Malaysian culture while also gaining insights into the complex challenges faced by migrant populations in Malaysia. Looking ahead, there is a palpable sense of optimism regarding the potential for this collaborative effort to serve as a catalyst for broader societal change through a commitment to innovation in the Consulate General Republic Indonesia and Universities around Indonesia. Lastly, this program brings the hope of paving the way for transformative solutions, furthering the cause of social justice and equitable development.
