In a significant collaborative effort towards promoting global advancement, Universitas Airlangga and WUACD, in collaboration with Kasetsart University, have partnered to spearhead initiatives in the international community development program. As a result of the collaboration, the international community development program was launched, which focuses on social science and natural sciences. The program was successfully executed at Kasetsart University, Bangkok, from the 23rd to the 27th of April 2024 and was attended by lecturers and students from Airlangga University and Kasetsart University.
The collaboration aims to foster positive change by exchanging knowledge and experience between the two participating universities. The main topics discussed during the international community development activities include heritage tourism and vibrant Baan Lao community life, antimicrobial resistance from animal origins, guidelines for promoting local architectural heritage to support the conservation and development of historic cities in the northern region of Thailand, maternal health, and renewable energy and technology supporting environmentally friendly tourism services. Moreover, the participants had the opportunity to visit Koh Kret, where they observed the environment, followed by a discussion session on the history and craft of pottery originating from Koh Kret. The activity was designed to allow participants to gain new knowledge from local residents.
The implementation of this program supports students to be directly involved in learning about the conditions of society in new environments. Further, it allows lecturers from different backgrounds to share and exchange knowledge through the collaboration between the two universities. The program was attended by seven students and lecturers from various faculties, such as the faculty of fisheries and marine science, faculty of veterinary, faculty of nursery, faculty of advanced technology and multidiscipline, faculty of dentistry, faculty of humanities, faculty of science and technology, faculty of social and political sciences, and faculty of economics and business. This program is also aligned with the values of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and embodies the values of SDG 3 “Good Health and Well-Being”, SDG 7 “Affordable and Clean Energy”, SDG 8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth”, SDG 9 “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure”, SDG 13 “Climate Action”, and SDG 17 “Partnerships to Achieve the Goals”.
