Series of earthquake had strike Mamuju, West Sulawesi, Indonesia several times in January 2021. As a response to the devastating natural disaster, World University Association for Community Development (WUACD) held an international webinar entitled Social Responsibility in Disaster Management and Mitigation on Monday, February 8, 2021.
The webinar began with the explanation of the disaster in Mamuju by the Head of the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D. After that, the explanation is followed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Krishna S. Pribadi, a professor of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), who called attention to the efforts to prevent the impact of disasters that had happened in Indonesia. As the webinar came to an end, Dr. Christrijogo Soemartono W., The chairman of Ksatria Airlangga Floating Hospital (RSTKA), also shared UNAIR’s contribution in disaster management efforts. He shared how the floating hospital of UNAIR had contributed to thousands of patients in the several regions of Indonesia, including in Mamuju.
The webinar was also attended by 458 participants and several members of WUACD namely Dr. Khatijah Omar and Dr. Norhayati Binti Ab Manaf from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Dr. Pariya Na Nakorn from Thammasat University, and Dr. Zuwati Hasim from University of Malaya.
